Workshop and fieldtrip schedule

9th June Monday

The participants will meet in the morning at the Geological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Dúbravská cesta 9) in Bratislava. They will be transported to the Congress Centre at Smolenice Castle by organizers in the afternoon (~1 hour travel). Participants arriving later can travel directly to the Smolenice Congress Centre.

The workshop will move from Smolenice to Devínska Nová Ves (a suburb of Bratislava) in the morning. Ichnotaxonomical talks will continue during this day, starting at about 9:30 a.m. in a conference room at the hotel Helios . The middle Miocene Sandberg locality, with nearshore and shoreface sediments, is situated less than 1 km from the hotel and will be visited in the afternoon. 12th June (Thursday)

Four localities will be visited on 12th June.

(1) Tunežice Quarry: Lower Jurassic sandy crinoidal limestones (Trlenská Formation, Manin Nappe, Central Western Carpathians) with occurrences of silicified Thalassinoides.

(2) Mount Butkov Quarry: The succession starts with the Lower Jurassic (Sinemurian) crinoidal limestones and ranges up to the Albian (Manin Nappe, Central Western Carpathians). A hardground surface (Albian Manín Formation) with borings of sponges (Entobia isp.) and bivalves (Gastrochaenolites isp.) will be examined.

(3) Veľké Rovné: The locality exposes turbiditic sediments of the Rača Unit (Eocene, Outer Western Carpathians). This outcrop is rich in Zoophycos and turbiditic sedimentary structures are common.

(4) Skladaná Skala Quarry: Sinemurian and Pliensbachian hemipelagic bioturbated succession (Krizna Nappe, Central Western Carpathians) with the “Fleckenkalk” lithofacies with Chondrites, Zoophycos and Teichichnus.

Accommodations will be reserved for the motel Ranč

13th June (Friday)

Three localities will be visited on 13th June.

(1) Závažná Poruba: Palaeogene sequence (Eocene) with coarse-grained conglomerate carbonates with Nummipera eocenica.

(2) Liptovská Lužná: Lower Triassic heterolithic siliciclastic sequences with Diplocraterion, Arenicolites, Rhizocorallium and Skolithos.

(3) Králiky Quarry (Eocene) exhibits fine-grained sandstones and conglomerates with Ophiomorpha, Skolithos, Piscichnus and “sand balls” that could be assigned to crustacean feeding pellets according Noda (1990). ). Arrival at Bratislava is planned for 7 to 8 p.m.
