Field excursions

Following two days of ichnotaxonomical discussions will be two days of field trips at several ichno-localities. During second day of discussions (11th June) the Sandberg locality will be visited.

Tunežice Quarry: First fieldtrip is planned for Lower Jurassic sequences (Lower Liassic, Trlenská Formation) with occurrence of silicified Thalassinoides.

Mt Butkov Quarry: Exposed sequences from Lower Jurassic (Sinemurian) to Lower Cretaceous (Albian). A hardground surface (Albian, Manín Formation) with identifiable borings (Entobia isp.) of sponges and bivalves (Gastrochaenolites isp.) will be examined.

Veľké Rovné: The locality is situated within the Flysch of the Rača Unit (Eocene). This outcrop is rich in Zoophycos and exclusive turbiditic sedimentary structures.

Skladaná Skala Quarry: Lower Jurassic (Pliensbachian, Sinemurian) hemipelagic bioturbate sequence of "Fleckenkalk" lithofacies. Chondrites, Zoophycos and Teichichnus occur here.

Ichnological analysis of the Skladaná Skala section is summarized in a paper of Šimo and Tomašových (2013).

Liptovská Lúžna: Lower Triassic heterolithic siliciclastic sequences with Diplocraterion, Arenicolites, Rhizocorallium and Skolithos.

Závažná Poruba: Basal Palaeogene sequences with coarse-grained carbonate sediment bearing Nummipera eocenica.

Kraliky Quarry (Eocene) exhibits fine-grained sandstones and conglomerates with Ophiomorpha, Skolithos, Piscichnus, Thalassinoides and “sand balls” that could be assigned to crustacean feeding pellets according Noda (1990). The locality is situated close to the Banská Bystrica city.
